Women’s History Month in the Pasadena Unified School District
THE HISTORY OF THE PUSD WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH ASSEMBLY
WHM in PUSD: The Women’s History Month assembly in the Pasadena Unified School District began with my question Eliot Arts Magnet Principal Lori Touloumian: “Why don’t we celebrate Women’s History Month? She replied, “Let’s do it.” The rest is history.
Principal Lori Touloumian helped the idea skyrocket and now we are looking forward to our 8th year of this innovative assembly. It focuses on the women’s liberation movement and is for middle and high school students. Students create art and write essays for this public assembly and the gallery is filled with original art by the students. There is no contest because we wanted to keep in accordance with the women’s liberation movement where they were committed to a non-hierarchical movement. This assembly is recognized by ACSA Region 15.
There is an exhibit that can be shown at libraries and universities fo 300 pieces of ephemera.
